MAPLAB was founded in 1996 with a focus on custom residential design delivered with down-to-earth personalized service.

We take great pride in our residential projects. We begin by asking you, “what do you want from your home, what does your day-to-day life look like, and what is important to you?” and then work with you to shape your living space. It is in your home’s private and public spaces where your self-expression and family's story is really told. Presentation and functionality are on equal terms.

Balance and ordered proportions and the pursuit of timelessness forms the foundation of our design vocabulary. We adhere to these principles whether we are designing within an existing historical style or attempting something new. We are influenced by what surrounds us here in the Midwest; but we also observe, collect ideas and details from beyond our local heritage. We gravitate towards what we find attractive and beautiful and then apply it to your given context and design problem.

We strive to design high-quality, long-lasting structures that require minimal maintenance. Your house should be both energy efficient and provide a healthy indoor living environment, and sustainability comes in the form of meeting both your present and future needs.

Our services are wide ranging depending on your needs. They include color consulting, casework and furniture design and fabrication; kitchen and bathroom design, interior design and decorating; renovations, additions, and new construction; and finally art consulting. Chicago is filled with amazing artists and galleries. We can work with you to find that piece that will be both meaningful and enhance your home.

We work primarily in the greater Chicagoland area but have occasionally ventured beyond for a vacation home.
